Morning Reflections

Morning Reflections by Gloria Heifner

After graduating from Central Missouri State University with a degree in commercial art, Gloria jumped head long into a graphic arts career holding positions in several Kansas City companies.

Artwork for personal satisfaction was put on hold while she invested her time and energy into career and family. When faced with an empty nest she decided it was time to again discover the joys of creating art for the pure pleasure of it.

Gloria is influenced by many current and historic artists whose work she has come in contact with in her search to grow as an artist. Lately she has found herself drawn to the expressionists and abstract expressionists for inspiration. She has been following the path of experimentation set out by artists like Jackson Pollock and David Alfaro Siqueiros. She also derives motivation and  inspiration from her fellow
artists in the Kansas City area.

Artist Process

When beginning a painting the only decisions Gloria makes is the support to paint on, the final size of the piece, and the basic colors.

Following the experimental path set out by the abstract expressionists, she works with acrylic paints thinned to enable them to blend and begin the composition as they are poured onto the support. As the first few colors begin to take on shape and movement, she begins to manipulate the paint with a variety of tools to develop a pleasing composition. She continues this process using poured, thrown, and dropped acrylic paint, acrylic mediums, and a variety of tools to bring energy and balance to the finished piece.
